114. Worshiping him by his grace அவன் அருளால் அவன் தாள் வணங்கி

Verse 114

மண்கிடார மேசுமந்து மலையுள்ஏறி மறுகுறீர்,
எண்படாத காரியங்கள் இயலும் என்று கூறுகிறீர்,
தம்பிரானை நாள்தொறும் தரையிலே தலைபடக்
கும்பிடாத மாந்தரோடு கூடிவாழ்வது எங்ஙனே?

Translation:

Carrying a mud vessel you tire out climbing the mountain,

For all the countless jobs, you say, “I can do it”,

How to live with people who do not worship the Lord

With their heads touching the floor.

Commentary:

This body is the maṇkiḍāram- the mud pot, easily destructible.  People try all kinds of austerities with this mud pot.  It is as if they are climbing a huge mountain carrying a big mud vessel.  In the end, they have nothing but fatigue. Without realizing their stupidity, they say that they are capable of doing anything, any job, any action, any number of them. They are not aware of their limited capacity. 

             

            All these efforts will not grant them liberation; they will never get true knowledge.  All they have to do is to worship the Lord with humility.  They should realize their limited capacity, the Lord’s unlimited power, acknowledge it by bowing in front of it and surrender to it.  This action, this alone will grant them liberation.  Manicavasakar mentions this as “worshipping his sacred feet by his grace” (avan arulaal avan adi vanangi).   Civavākkiyar exclaims in frustration that people do not do this simple act and try all kinds of tricks.  He wonders how one could manage to live with such people, to be associated with them.

இவ்வுடலே மண்கிடாரம்- எளிதில் அழியக்கூடியது, பஞ்சபூதங்களால் ஆனது.  மக்கள் இந்த உடலை பல்வேறு சடங்களுகளுக்கும் உலகப்பொருட்களைத் தேடுவதற்கும் பயன்படுத்துகின்றனர்.  அந்த தேடல்கள் மலைமீது ஏறுவதைப் போலக் கடினமான பிரயத்தனங்கள்.  முடிவில் அவர்கள் தாம் விரும்பும் பயனைப் பெறாமல் தளர்ச்சி மட்டும் அடைகின்றனர்.  தமது முட்டாள்தனத்தை உணராமல் அவர்கள் தம்மால் எதையும் செய்ய முடியும் எத்தனை முறையும் செய்ய முடியும் என்றும் வீராப்பாகப் பேசுகின்றனர்.  தமது அளவுக்குட்பட்ட திறத்தை உணருவதில்லை.

            இந்த முயற்சிகள் எதுவும் அவர்களுக்கு ஞானத்தை அளிப்பதில்லை.  அதற்கு அவர்கள் இறைவனை முழுவிசுவாசத்துடனும் தாழ்மையுடனும் வணங்க வேண்டும்.  தமது தலை மண்ணில் படுமாறு கீழே விழுந்து வணங்க வேண்டும்.  இந்த ஒரு செயல்தான் அவர்களுக்கு ஞானத்தை அளிக்கும்.  இதைத்தான் மாணிக்க வாசகர் “அவன் அருளால் அவன் தாள் வணங்கி” என்கிறார்.  இவ்வாறு செய்யாத மக்களுடன் வஞ்சனைகள் பல புரிவாருடன் எவ்வாறு வாழ்வது என்று சிவவாக்கியர் வெறுப்புடன் கூறுகிறார்.
