37. Melting the heart and merging within..

Verse 37

இருக்குநாலு வேதமும் எழுத்தை அறவோதிலும்

பெருக்கநீறு பூசிலும் பிதற்றலும் பிரான் இரான்

உருக்கி நெஞ்சை உட்கலந்த உண்மை கூற வல்லிரேல்

சுருக்கமற்ற சோதியை தொடர்ந்துகூட லாகுமே!

Translation:

Uttering the four Vedas including Rg completely,

Applying sacred ash copiously and prattling- the Lord will not remain,

If you are capable of telling the truth of It melting the heart and merging within,

It will be possible to associate with the contraction-less effulgence continually.

Commentary:

Civavākkiyar says that uttering the Vedas, applying sacred ash and talking about the Divine do not convey the presence of the Lord within.  If one is capable of telling people the way the Lord melted one’s heart and merged within then it will truly convey the presence of the Divine within.  Civavākkiyar says “if you are capable of telling that truth” because he knows that no one will be able to talk about it. The experience is beyond words.

The truth, the Lord, is the Supreme Veda, the supreme mantra.  Uttering its name is the way for liberation, not empty recital of the Vedas or the prattle in the name of worship  ritual.
