102. Within the eight, eight and eight remains my Lord

Verse 102

வட்டமென்று உம்முளே மயக்கிவிட்ட திவ்வெளி

அட்டரக் கரத்துளே அடக்கமும் ஒடுக்கமும்

எட்டும் எட்டும் எட்டுமாய் இயங்கு சக்கரத்துளே

எட்டலாம் உதித்தது எம்பிரானை நாம் அறிந்தபின்

Translation:

This space has deluded you as a circle within you,

Containment and absorption within the eight letters,

Can be reached within the cakra that operates as eight, eight and eight,

It dawns after we knew our Lord.

Commentary:

The unlimited space has deluded us that life is a circle, a cycle of repeated births and deaths.  This is not true.  All the manifested and unmanifested are contained within the eight lettered mantra a-u-m-na-ma-ci-va-ya.  The cakra referred to here is the Umapati cakra.  It is drawn with eight horizontal and eight vertical lines with the eight letters contained within it.  This verse is similar to verse 917 of Tirumular’s Tirumandiram that states ‘eṭṭu nilaiyuḷē eṅkōn iruppiḍam’- the residence of my king is within the eight states.  

A cakra is a geometric pattern used by yogins in their spiritual exercise.  It is a power diagram or an energy pattern that represents some personification or an aspect of the divine.  A yantra focusses the psychic forces on a pattern such that the worshipper is able to recreate in him mental image of the Divine and focus on it.

இப்பாடலில் வெளி என்பது பரவெளியை பரம்பொருளைக் குறிக்கும்.  எங்கும் நிறைந்துள்ள அந்த பரவெளி தொடரும் பிறப்பு இறப்பு என்ற வட்டமாக நம்மை மயக்கி வைத்துள்ளது.  எட்டு அக்ஷரங்கள் என்பது அ உ ம நமசிவாய அல்லது ஐம் க்லீம் சௌம் நமசிவாய என்று கொள்ளலாம்.  எட்டும் எட்டும் எட்டுமாய் இயங்கும் சக்கரம் என்பது உமாபதி சக்கரத்தைக் குறிப்பதாகக் கொள்ளலாம்.  அது எட்டு குறுக்குக்கோடுகளையும் எட்டு நெடுக்குக் கோடுகளையும் அதனுள் எட்டு எழுத்துக்களையும் கொண்டது.  அல்லது அது 8+8+8 அதாவது இருபத்து நான்கு தத்துவங்களாக பரம்பொருள் இருப்பதைக் குறிப்பதாகக் கொள்ளலாம்.  இப்பாடல் திருமந்திரப் பாடல் 917 லில் “எட்டு நிலையுளே எங்கோன் இருப்பிடம்” என்று  குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளதை ஒத்து உள்ளது.

யந்திரம் என்பது ஒரு சக்தி வரைபடமாகும்.  அது பரம்பொருளின் ஒரு நிலையை அல்லது ஒரு தன்மையைக் குறிக்கும்.  யந்திரத்தின் உதவியுடன் ஒரு சாதகர் சக்தியைக் குவித்துத் தனது மனதுள் இறைவனின் உருவை நிலை நிறுத்தி தியானிக்கிறார்.
