105. With my head melting....

Verse 105

பரம்உனக்கு எனக்குவேறு பயம்இலை பராபரா!
கரம்எடுத்து நிற்றலும் குவித்திடக் கடவதும்
சிரம்உருகி ஆர்த்தலும் சிவபிரானே என்னலும்
உரம்எனக்கு நீ அளித்த ஓம்நமசி வாயவே!

Translation:

My responsibility is yours; I have no other fear, Supreme Lord!

Lifting hands, standing and folding them in supplication,

With the head melting, roaring My Lord Śiva!

The strength for me is the aum namacivaya that you granted.

Commentary:

In this verse Civavākkiyar says that he is submitting his responsibility to the Lord and hence he is living free of any fear.  This is the concept of bhara samarpanam.  Some of the other terms for this process are nyāsam, prapatti or śaranāgati.  All these words mean self-surrender.   Surrendering one’s responsibility means offering one’s soul (svarūpa samarpanam), the responsibility of one’s protection (bhara samarpanam) and the fruit of one’s existence (phala samarpanam).  This process involves having the resolution that (1) one will follow the right path and refrain from going astray, (2) one firmly believes that the Divine will grant liberation, recognizing one’s limited capacity to do the needful for liberation and (3) that it is only the Absolute that has the capacity to liberate us.  This is the underlying concept of the ultimate and supreme means for liberation, the śāmbhavopaya of Kashmir Śaivism. 

In the śāmbhavopaya the aspirant does nothing other than offering his responsibility to the Absolute and waits for the divine grace to descend and grant him liberation.  This is the supreme means that is explained well by Utpala Deva and Kṣemaraja in the Śiva Sutras.  Civavākkiyar conforms to this technique and says that he has no fear what so ever- neither about liberation nor about anything else and that the Lord’s words, namacivaya, gives him the strength to remain so.

Civavākkiyar says that the Divine experience will be so wonderful that he will roar in bliss saying “My Lord Śiva!” 

இறைவனுடன் உரையாடலாகக் காணப்படும் இப்பாடலில் சிவவாக்கியர் உயருணர்வு நிலையில் தனக்கு ஏற்படும் அனுபவங்களை விளக்குகிறார்.  அவர் தன்னை முழுவதுமாக இறைவனிடம் ஒப்படைத்துவிட்டதால் தனக்கு எவ்வித பயமும் இல்லை என்கிறார்.  இத்தகைய சரணாகதி பர சமர்ப்பணம் எனப்படும்.  அதன் பிற பெயர்கள் நியாசம், பிரபத்தி என்பவையாகும். ஒருவர் தன்னையும் தனது எல்லாவித உடைமைகளையும்- மனைவி மக்கள் உறவினர் உட்பட, தனது செயல்களையும் அவற்றின் பலனையும் இறைவனின் பொறுப்பில் விட்டுவிடுவது.  காஷ்மீர் சைவ சம்பிரதாயத்தில் இது சாம்பவோபாயம் எனப்படுகிறது.  இந்த வழியை உத்பல தேவரும் க்ஷேமராஜரும் சிவ சூத்திர உரையில் விளக்கியுள்ளனர்.  இந்த உயருணர்வு நிலையில் தனக்கு வலுவைக் கொடுப்பது நமசிவாய என்ற ஐந்தெழுத்து மந்திரமே என்கிறார் சிவவாக்கியர்.  அந்த உணர்வு நிலை எவ்வளவு உயர்ச்சியைக் கொடுக்கிறது என்பதை விளக்க தான் “எனது இறைவா சிவனே” என்று கூவுவதாக அவர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.
