95. How omkara is born

Verse 95

அவ்வுதித்த மந்திரம் அகாரமாய் உகாரமாய்

எவ்வெழுத்து அறிந்தவர்க்கு எழுபிறப்பது இங்கிலை

சவ்வுதித்த மந்திரத்தைத் தற்பரத்து இருத்தினால்

அவ்வும் உவ்வும் மவ்வுமாய் அமர்ந்ததே சிவாயமே

Translation:                               

The mantra that occurred from avvu as as a and u.

For the experts of letters who know this, no seven births here,

If the mantra that occurred from cavvu is retained in the suṣumna

It is Civayam that remained as a, u and m.

Commentary:

The three lettered mantra aum represents the Ultimate Reality.  The mantra is split as a that represents the divine, u that represents the limited soul and m that represents maya or the pāsam.  All these three letters merge in the single letter a as they all occurred from the divine.  For those who are experts of letters, for those who are experts of mantra and their significances, if they know this principle there is no more samsara. 

All these mantras represent the nāda or the primordial sound from which the manifested universe took a form.  This nāda emerged from spanda or the active form of the divine.  This capacity to be ‘operative’ or ‘operational’ is represented by the letter ca.  Thus, aum emerged from cavvu .   Cavvu is the letter of Śiva.  Civavākkiyar says that if this mantra, cavvu is contemplated on then the Divine remains within as aum the Ultimate Reality.   

     இந்தப்பாடல் ஓங்காரத்தை விளக்குகிறது.  அவ்வு என்னும் எழுத்து பரம்பொருளைக் குறிக்கும்.  அதிலிருந்து அகாரமும் உகாரமும் பிறக்கின்றன. அ என்பது பரம்பொருளின் செயலற்ற நிலையையும் உகாரம் செயல்புரியும் நிலையையும் குறிக்கின்றன.  இதை உணர்ந்தவருக்கு மறுபிறவி இல்லை என்று சிவவாக்கியர் கூறுகிறார்.  சவ்விலிருந்து பிறப்பது சி.  இது சிவனின் எழுத்து.  இந்த எழுத்து அக்னியைக் குறிக்கும்.  குண்டலினி அக்னியை பரவுணர்வு என்ற தற்பரத்தில் நிறுத்தினால் அதுவே ஓங்காரமாக அ, உ, ம என்னும் எழுத்தாக பரமாத்மா, ஜீவாத்மா மாயை என்ற மூன்றாக உலகம் தோன்றுவதற்குக் காரணமாக இருக்கிறது.
