54. Like a measure of salt and a measure of water...

Verse 54

நாழிஅப்பு நாழிஉப்பு நாழியான வாறுபோல்

ஆழியோனும் ஈசனும் அமர்ந்து வாழ்ந்திருந்திடம்

எருதில் ஏறும் ஈசனும் இயங்குசக்ர தரனையும்

வேறுவேறு பேசுவார் வீழ்வர் வீண்நரகிலே

Translation:

Like a measure of water and a measure of salt becoming one measure

It is the place where the possessor of the disc and īśa remained

The Lord who mounts the bull and the one with the disc-

Those who speak of them as different will fall in miserable hell.

Commentary:

When a measure of salt is added to a measure of water it does not become two measures but continues to be only one measure.  The salt dissolves in the water without any trace.  In the same way the Divinities Vishnu and Siva merge together as one unit, the Ultimate Reality, the Supreme consciousness.  In this process, both of them remain together as one unit.  Civavākkiyar says that those who speak of them as different are marked for destruction.

  ஒரு நாழி உப்பை ஒரு நாழி நீரிலிட்டால் அவை இரண்டும் சேர்ந்து ஒரு நாழி உப்பு நீராகின்றன. அந்த நீரும் உப்பும் தமது தனித்தன்மையை விட்டு ஒன்றாகின்றன. அதேபோல் இரு உருவங்களாகவும் குணங்களாகவும் இருக்கும் சிவனும் விஷ்ணுவும் ஒன்றாகி பரம்பொருள் ஆகின்றனர். அதனால் அவர்களிடையே வேற்றுமையைப் பேசுவது அறிவிலிகளின் செயலாகும்.  அவ்வாறு போசுவோர் நரகத்தில் விழுவர் என்று சிவவாக்கியர் கூறுகிறார்.
