55. He is the Lord of Tillai and the one in Tiruarangam

Verse 55

தில்லைநாய கன்அவன் திருவரங்கனும் அவன்

எல்லையான புவனமும் ஏகமுத்தியும் அவன்

பல்லு நாவும் உள்ளபேர் பகுந்துகூறி மகிழுவார்

வல்லபங்கள் பேசுவார் வாய்புழுத்து மாய்வரே

Translation:

He is the lord of Thillai, he is the one who resides in Thiruvarangam

He is the limited world and supreme liberation

Those with teeth and tongue will enjoy talking about them as different,

Those who speak of the exploit so, will die with their mouths putrefying.

Commentary:

Civavākkiyar establishes that Śiva and Viṣṇu are one and the same vehemently in this verse.  Thillai or Chidambaram is the most sacred place for Śaivites. Thiruvarangam or Srirangam is the most sacred place for Vaiṣnavites.  Civavākkiyar says that the same Lord resides in both these places.  He curses those who speak about them as different.  People quote episodes from various Puranas and say that one is superior over the other.  Civavākkiyar says that such people will die with worms in their mouths that spoke so.  They will not get even a decent burial.

Ambaram and arangam both mean arena.  The one who dances or remains in the active state and the one who remains in the arena, in the yoga nidra or inactive state,  is the Ultimate Consciousness. The active state represents the spanda, the cause for manifestation and the inactive state represents the state preceding it, the state of Paramasiva.

                சிவனும் விஷ்ணுவும் ஒரே இறைமையின் வெளிப்பாடுகளே என்று கூறும் மற்றொரு பாடல் இது.  தில்லையில் நடனமாடும் நடராஜனும் திருவரங்கத்தில் இருக்கும் அரங்கனும் ஒன்றே.  இவர்களுள் வேறுபாடு பேசுவோர் வாய் புழுத்து மடிவர் என்று சிவவாக்கியர் கூறுகிறார்.

      இப்பாடல் செயல்பாடுடைய இறைவனும் செயலற்று இருப்பவனும் ஒன்றே என்று குறிப்பதாகவும் கொள்ளலாம். தில்லை என்பதும் திருவரங்கம் என்பதும் மனத்தைக் குறிக்கும். அங்கே ஆடுபவனும் யோகத்தில் இருப்பவனும் ஒரே இறைமைதான். ஆடல்நிலை, உருவை, இவ்வுலகமாக பரிணமித்திருக்கும் இறைமையையும், ஆடலற்ற நிலை அருவநிலையையும் குறிக்கும்.  இறைவனின் செயல்படும் நிலையே உலகமாகப் பரிணமித்துள்ளது.
