60. Please remain even if I forget you

Verse 60

அறத்திறங்களுக்கும் நீ அகண்ட எண் திசைக்கும்நீ

திறத்திறங்க ளுக்கு நீ தேடுவார்கள் சிந்தை நீ

உறக்கம்நீ உணர்வுநீ உட்கலந்த சோதி நீ

மறக்கொணாத நின்கழல் மறப்பினும் குடிகொளே

Translation:

You are for superior virtues; you are for the expansive eight directions,

You are for the best of the best; you are the thoughts of the seekers

Sleep-you, feelings-you, the effulgence that merged within-you,

Even if I forget your “not-to be-forgotten” sacred feet, please reside in me.

Commentary:

Civavākkiyar pleads with the Ultimate Reality to come within him even if he fails to think about It.  He addresses the Ultimate Reality as the superior virtue, the best of the best, the expansive space, the feeling, the lack of it and the effulgence within.

Saranagati marga is one of the four ways for liberation.  According to Kashmir Shaivism this is the supreme path.  Here, the superior consciousness reveals itself without any special effort on the part of the limited soul.  This song seems to refer to this path. 

நமது கர்மங்கள் நம்மை இறைவனை மறந்து உலக வாழ்வில் ஈடுபடச் செய்கின்றன. அதனால் நமது முயற்சியால் இறைவனைப் பெற விழைவதைவிட அவனே தனது முயற்சியால் நம்மை அடைவதே நிச்சயமான வழியாகும். அதையே சிவவாக்கியர் கடைசி வரியில் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.  இறைவனே எல்லா அறங்கள், திசைகள், சிந்தைஉறக்கம் உணர்வு, நம்முள் இருக்கும் ஜோதி. 

சரணாகதி மார்கம் என்பது நான்குவித மோட்ச வழிகளில் ஒன்று.  காஷ்மீர் சைவத்தில் அதையே தலையாய வழியாகக் கூறுகின்றனர்.  அம்மார்கத்தில் ஒரு ஜீவனின் முயற்சியில்லாது இறைவனே ஜீவனுக்குத் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்திக்கொள்கிறான். இப்பாடல் சரணாகதி மார்க்கத்தைக் குறிப்பதைப் போல் இருக்கின்றது.
