62. Seek women and die, seek wisdom and live forever

Verse 62

மை அடர்ந்த கண்ணினார் மயக்கிடும் மயக்கிலே

ஐயிறந்து கொண்டுநீங்கள் அல்லலுற்று இருப்பிர்காள்

மெய்யறிந்த சிந்தையாய் விளங்குஞானம் எய்தினால்

உய்யறிந்து கொண்டுநீங்கள் ஊழிகாலம் வாழ்விரே

Going after women

You will die begging

With wisdom and right knowledge,

Liberation, eternal life- they are yours.

Commentary:

It is not Sivavakkiyar’s intention to demean women.  Women are only place holders to represent worldly pleasures.  If one seeks ephemeral pleasures, one is sure to die in the end seeking them.  With the right attitude and wisdom, one will go down the path for liberation, eternal life.

இப்பாடல் பெண்களை இழிவுபடுத்துவதைப் போலத் தோன்றினாலும் சிவவாக்கியரின் எண்ணம் அதுவல்ல. மண், பெண், பொன் என்னும் மூன்று வித ஆசைகள், அதாவது, அசையா சொத்து, உடலின்பம், செல்வம் ஆகிய மூன்றுவித ஆசைகளும் மிக வலிமையானவை.  ஒருவனைத் தன்னை இழக்கச் செய்பவை.  அவற்றைப் பெற ஒருவன் எதையும் செய்யத் தயாராக இருப்பான். இவை மூன்றும் அழியக் கூடிய செல்வங்கள், மெய்யான இன்பமல்ல என்பதை ஒருவன் அறிந்தால் அவன் இவற்றை விட்டு உண்மைப் பொருளை நாடுவான்.  சாகாவரம் பெற்று வாழ்வான்.
