70. How to avoid destruction?

Verse 70

இருக்கவேண்டும் என்றபோது இருத்தலாய் இருக்குமோ

மரிக்கவேண்டும் என்றலோ மண்ணுளே படைத்தனர்

சுருக்கமற்ற தம்பிரான் சொன்ன அஞ்செழுத்தையும்

மரிக்குமுன் வணங்கிடீர் மருந்தெனப் பதம்கெடீர்

Translation:

When needed to linger, will it be the act of lingering?

Didn’t they create in this earth only to die?

The five letters uttered by the limitless Lord

You do not worship as panacea before death; you do not lose the state (as Jiva)

Commentary:

Śiva and Śakti, the inactive and active part of the Supreme, created this universe only to have it destroyed in the end. Hence, everything in this world will come to an end, die one day.  Before that day comes, those created so should utter the five letters, namacivaya as the panacea to get relief from the disease of worldly life, the disease of being in the limited state.  Civavākkiyar complains that no one is doing so in spite of the creators remaining in this world to help them. 

சிவனும் சக்தியும் இவ்வுலகை முடிவில் அழிப்பை வைத்தே படைத்துள்ளனர்.  அதனால் இவ்வுலகில் படைக்கப்பட்டவை அனைத்தும் முடிவில் அழியப்போவது உறுதி.  இதை உணராத மக்கள் இம்முடிவுக்கு வழி தேடாமல் மேலும் மேலும் சம்சாரத்தில் உழன்று முடிவில் மரித்துப் போகின்றனர்.  இந்நிலையிலிருந்து தப்புவதற்கு ஒரே வழி பிறப்பறுப்பதுதான்.  அதைக் கொடுப்பது நமசிவாய மந்திர ஜபம்.  அதையே சிவவாக்கியர் இப்பாடலில் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்
